Highmark reports community partnerships’ improved health impact

December 13, 2021

Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Delaware and Delaware Community Foundation recently released The Power of Giving: a report on the impact of the BluePrints for the Community grants 2008-2020, detailing 12 years of community partnerships and investments.

Established as a donor-advised fund in 2007, BluePrints for the Community granted more than $16 million through 2020 and has committed over $22 million to date. More than 200 community-based partners and nonprofits have received grant awards to address social determinants of health, reduce health disparities in minority communities, increase access to healthcare for the uninsured and underserved, recruit and train healthcare professionals, and support early childhood and youth development and wellness.

“The work of BluePrints for the Community is a truly collaborative effort that relies on collective input and meaningful relationships,” said Nick Moriello, president of Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Delaware. “We could not make this kind of impact without the philanthropic expertise of DCF, diverse insights and volunteered time of our BluePrints for the Community Advisory Council, or the unwavering support of the Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Delaware board of directors. Most of all, we rely on the knowledge, experience and leadership of our many wonderful grant partners who know best what is needed in the communities they serve.”

The report highlights the tremendous work, innovative approaches and compassion that Delaware community-based organizations are exemplifying throughout the state.

“From a thoughtfully designed application to the inclusion of external community members in the review process, to meaningful partnership beyond just financial support, BluePrints for the Community is dedicated to lasting improvements in health for Delawareans,” said Rita Landgraf, BluePrints for the Community Advisory Council chair. “We are proud to share this report in recognition of our colleagues who are creating a healthy and thriving Delaware.”
